Obituary

Mary Beverly Hillyard, of Chester, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Wyngate Senior Living in Weirton, where she had resided for several years, on Saturday, November 7, 2020.
A lifelong area resident, Beverly was born in Newell on January 25, 1927. 93 years old, she was a daughter of the late John D. and Jennie Lynn Stanley Geer.
A 1945 graduate of Wells Highs School in Newell, Beverly attended West Virginia University, Santa Monica Junior College, and UCLA, earning a degree in applied science. She then was employed at West Penn Hospital Lab in Pittsburgh and East Liverpool City Hospital Lab. She retired as a teacher’s aide from Hancock County Schools. She was a member of the Chester First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Methodist Women. Beverly held memberships in the Eastern Star, the Red Hat Society, and was a girl scout leader.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin H. “Bud” Hillyard Jr. on December 31, 2004, and by her brothers, Wallace, Jack, and Pete Geer, and an infant great-grandson.
Beverly was a wonderful mother, she will be deeply missed by her daughters, Mary (Jim) Woofter of Oak Ridge, TN., Jenny (Jim) Dotson of East Liverpool, Donna (Steve) Cameron of Charlottesville, VA., and Ellen Manypenny and her husband Wayne Mielke of Weirton. There are also six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by The Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester WV.
