Marjorie”Joan”Gibbs Cooper , age 94, passed December 10, 2020 in Albuquerque , NM where she resided the past 6 years. Daughter, Amy was by her side.
Born at her grandmother’s residence in Yellow Creek, OH , she was a lifelong resident of New Cumberland, WV. until relocating to FL .
Preceded in death by her parents Denzil F. And Margaret Gibbs, a son, Thomas B. Cooper, and daughter Mary Ann Cooper Chiappetta.
Lovingly remembered by daughters, Cathy J Cooper and Rob Davis of Powder Springs, GA. and Amy Mayhew (Bill) of Albuquerque, NM.
Grandson Thomas J. Cooper (Raimee) Las Vegas NV, Granddaughters Jennifer Thomas Sponaugle and Michele Thomas both of Albuquerque, grandsons Chace Mayhew of FL. , Mason Mayhew (Melanie) of Albuquerque, 10 great grandchildren , 1 great great grandson, and brother n law, Raymond Cooper of New Cumberland, WV.
Preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, John H Cooper, they made their home in New Cumberland, WV onCherry Lake Road for over 40 years before embarking on a great adventure together on their houseboat with John as Captain and his beloved Joan, his First Mate. They journeyed down the Mighty Ohio River to the Tombigbee River , and out into the Gulf of Mexico and on to Punta Gorda, FL where they lived aboard for 5 years before landing in a condo where they resided until John’s death in 2014.
Joan graduated salutatorian from New Cumberland High School Class of ’44.
Retired from the US Postal Service in 1988.
She was very active in Trinity United Methodist Church, serving on many committees over the years.
Her friendships were her wealth. Wherever they went together, lifelong friendships were made…
