Thomas Alan Matthews, 75, of New Cumberland, WV went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Born December 6, 1945 in Steubenville, OH he was a son of the late Arthur “Bud” and Kathryn (Elig) Matthews. He is also preceded in death by three sisters Margaret Brokaw, Nancy Parks and Kathryn Strean and two brothers James Matthews and David Matthews.
Tom was a 1965 graduate of Weir High School where he was a proud member of the 1962-65 Varsity band. He served in the United States Air Force 821st Security Police Squadron – Vietnam. Tom then went on to serve his hometown as a detective with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department. Tom then spent years as an owner/operator truck driver for Pitt-Ohio Express and Dandy and retired from Ohio Gas.
He was an active member of the Weirton Church of the Nazarene.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Kathryn Matthews; son Tommy Matthews, both of New Cumberland; daughter Tiffany (Kirk) Grant of Los Angeles, CA; the mother of his children Joann (Guzzetta) Babela of Steubenville, OH and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial was held on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at Weirton Church of the Nazarene for close friends and family. The Nixon Funeral Home handled arrangements.
