Board of Education

     Plans are being made to hold proms and graduation in Hancock County.  Superintendent Dawn Petrovich told the Hancock County Board of Education Monday that plans are being made to hold both  proms and graduation ceremonies at Oak Glen and Weir High if the County continues on its  path of COVID reduction.  The County is currently on green status and Petrovich said she will continue to work with the Health Department to ensure all guidance is observed.
 Petrovich gave a school-by-school report to the regarding the results of students who attended school virtually.  Of the 51 Oak Glen students, 29 passed and 22 failed and of the 83 Weir High students enrolled 46 passed and 37 failed.  She also reported on students in jeopardy in both elementary and middle schools and said the teachers are working hard to help them succeed.
Petrovich announced that Hancock County was awarded a $500,000.00 grant to fund summer school for 2021 and 2022.  Jobs for summer school will be posted in the near future.

In other business, the Board:
**Learned that 154 students had entered the county school system with 162 leaving;
**Accepted the resignation of Rachel Mateo as Athletic Trainer at Oak Glen High;
**Accepted the resignations of Pamela Robinson, teacher at Oak Glen Middle, and Amy Beilhart, teacher at Allison Elementary. Both are retiring;
**Accepted the resignations of Garret Railing, Assistant Football Coach at Oak Glen Middle, and T.J. Miller, Assistant Football Coach at Weir High;
**Accepted the resignations of Sherry A. LaRosa, Supervisory Aide/AM Weirton Elementary, and Elizabeth J. Miller, Supervisory Aide/AM/ECCAT, Weirton Elementary;
**Accepted the resignation of Van T. Huynh, Custodian II, Weir High;
**Approved an Oak Glen coaching assignment for Michael Moran, Boys’ Head Tennis;
**Approved Weir High coaching assignments for Don Young, Assistant Baseball; Lucas Flaus, Assistant Baseball; Joseph Aperfine, Assistant Softball; Aaron Velegol, Assistant Boys’ Tennis; and Constantina Hajiannou, Head Boys’ Tennis;
**Approved Janice C. Shields as a Countywide Substitute Aide;
**Transferred Sherry A. Taylor from Countywide Substitute Custodian to Custodian II, Weir Middle, and Gary Powell from Countywide Substitute Bus Driver to Bus Operator #75;
**Transferred James M. Orr from Custodian II, OGHS/OGMS, to Custodian II, Allison Elementary;
**Announced the Board will meet March 22 to take up the Proposed Levy Rate.
