My goodness, where do we even begin to tell you about all that’s been going on at the library since we were last together? Let’s begin with what the kiddos have been up to. They have been busy watching us on Facebook every weekday at 3:00 and coming in to get their craft packet and making some really cool things. We still have one more week of our Summer Reading stories and crafts before we wrap it up for this year. Remember to stop in and show us your Summer Reading Logs and pick out some prizes. We’re so proud of each and every one of you for continuing to read over the summer. Y’all have done a fantastic job of improving your reading skills. Keep up the good work.
The kiddos in our Summertime Storytime have also been having a summer full of fun. With a different summer theme each week, they have enjoyed a ‘popsicle’ day, a ‘camping’ trip, a ‘beach’ trip, a ‘zoo’ trip a ‘picnic’ a ‘waterpark’ day, a ‘sidewalk fun’ day, a farm day, and to close out the summer session, they’ll have an ‘ice cream & carnival’ day. You’ll want to check our Facebook page to see just how much fun they’ve had. Registration is now open for the FALL SESSION of STORYTIME for children ages birth – 5. It will be held on Wednesdays from September 15-December 8. There’s NO CHARGE, but donations for craft supplies are very much appreciated.
Our weekly GAME NIGHT will also be wrapping up next Thursday. We’ve really enjoyed having so many join us each week to play games or work on building puzzles. GAME NIGHT will be held on the FIRST THURSDAY of every month from September – May, so the kiddos can focus on their studies during the school year.
Did you hear about our HARRY POTTER DAY? WOW! What a wizard of a day. We had our photos taken at Platform 9 ¾, then went in to make a quill, a magical wand, our House’s tie, a floating candle, cast a few spells, and then made Butterbeer, and mmmmmmm, was it delicious. You missed a lot of fun if you weren’t here with us, but word has it, you’ll have another chance to join the fun next year.
And now for the adults. What have they been up to? Well, several have stayed for GAME NIGHT and may have been beat in a game or two. Our groups continue to grow in number, with 15 people for our SIT & STITCH group last month. If you’d like to be part of the stitching, stop in on the 2nd & 4th Friday of every month, from 11-1 and/or 5-7. There are some beautiful things being made, as well as new friendships.
Our SENIOR STRETCH will meet again the third Saturday, Aug 21, at 10am for the Ladies and 10:45 for the gentlemen. Erin Malcomb, certified instructor, will lead us in joint friendly, keep ya movin’ chair exercises. Come stretch with us.
Last but not least, our PLARN MAT, aka “bag” ladies, will be meeting again on the 3rd Friday, Aug 20, to prep more bags for our crocheters, so we can send mats to our deployed soldiers. They appreciate them so much.
We are still collecting old eyeglasses for the Lions Club. If you, or anyone you know, have some lying around, gather ‘em up and bring ‘em in.
Have y’all seen our new OPEN flag yet? We were so excited to get that put up for y’all. If you see the flag flying, you know we’re here, so come on in and see us. Aside from being closed on Holidays and Sundays, we’re here M-Th 10-6, F 10-5 and Sat 10-2.
Remember to check out our Facebook page, Lynn Murray Memorial Library, for all of our videos, pictures, NEW book releases available, updates and events that are coming.
Until next time…. grab a book and let your imagination take you places you’ve never been.
