FOOTBALL FIELD TURF REPLACEMENT UPDATE

Work has begun on installation of the  new turf at the Weir High Football stadium according  to Joe Campinelli, Hancock County School finance director.   The work at Weir High is slated to take 7 to 10 days and then the turf installation is expected to begin at Oak Glen.  Campinelli said while it’s uncertain  if the Oak Glen turf will be complete in time for the Oak Glen – Linsly scrimmage it will be complete for the Oak Glen – Weir game on August 27.

The national shortage of materials and labor due to COVID resulted in the delay of the arrival of the turf as scheduled according to Campinelli.

The new turf had a total cost of $927,060.00 ($450,770.00 – Oak Glen and $467,265.00 – Weir.)  The project was made possible through the refinancing of bonds which resulted in $1.4 million in savings.

The replacement of the bleachers in the gymnasiums is on schedule for mid-September according to Campinelli.
