Residents who have contributed much of their time and effort to their community and fellow humans will be honored this year as the New Cumberland Hall of Fame returns. The COVID pandemic caused the annual celebration to take a hiatus in 2020. This year’s event will be held on February 7 at 1 p.m. in the New Cumberland Christian Church. A reception will be held following the program so that those attending may offer their congratulations to the honorees.
This year’s Hall of Fame honorees are Diane Wells (living) and Cathy Sobel (deceased). Roy Boring will receive the Spirit of Scouting Award. Bios and photos of the honorees will run in next week’s HOMETOWN NEWS.
The program was started by Robert Stanley as his Eagle Scout program in 1991. A member of Boy Scout Troop #38, Stanley organized the first event on Boy Scout Sunday, which is the first Sunday in February. Nominations are solicited from the public and the honorees selected by a committee which consists of a representative from each church and organization in town and past honorees. The criteria for selection is the contributions the individual has made through religious, business, educational or civic service; the length of that service and the moral integrity exhibited by the candidate.
