OBITUARY: JOHN VULGAMORE

John Martin Vulgamore lived in New Cumberland, WV; was born July 6, 1948, the son of Rebecca & Welty Martin Vulgamore , and was deceased on February 10, 2022.

                John grew up in New Cumberland and graduated from Oak Glen High School in 1966. He wrestled and played football on the High School’s “possibly second best team in history”.

                John tasted college life at West Liberty before entering the US Navy in 1967. His Navy travels took him all over the globe. He spent time in the waters of Vietnam receiving the Navy Unit Commendation, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Metal and the Military Meritorious Unit Commendation. He served most of hi time on the USS Monticello learning electronics, radiomen Class A and Basic electricity. He got out of the Navy in 1971 and stayed in San Diego for many years. He earned his MBA at San Diego University and worked for General Dynamics San Diego.

                John did not know a stranger and made many life long friends everywhere he went. He was a founding member of the El Cajon St Patrick’s Day Parade, a bar hopping all day trip which was held every year.

                John leaves behind a loving family. A sister, Mary Jean (Bill) McIntosh, two brothers, Fred Vulgamore and Howard (Maureen) Vulgamore. One niece Amanda (Dave) Flynn, 5 nephews, Andrew (Dana) Vulgamore, Vincent (Ashley) McIntosh, Adam (Lindsay) Vulgamore, Fred (Michelle) Vulgamore, Patrick (Nora) Vulgamore. He also leaves behind 11 adoring greats.

                John was the “favorite nephew of Aunt Louise Cline” from Texas. His family also consists of many cousins who loved him dearly.

                He will be missed by his family who loved him and laughed with his never ending stories. John also leaves behind many good friends that he adored and even put some in his “Stupidity Hall of Fame.

                Friends will be received at Turley Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 – 8 pm.

                Funeral services will be there Monday, February 14, 2022 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Craig Greathouse officiating. Military Honors and Interment will be at the New Cumberland Cemetery.

                In lieu of flowers the family ask a donation be sent to John’s favorite charities: Magic Tree Garden – PO Box 108 New Cumberland, WV. The VFW Auxiliary Children’s Christmas – PO Box 155 New Cumberland, WV and any local Boy Scout Troop.
