Robert R. “Joe” Smith, 77, of Georgetown, passed, Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, following a brief illness.
Born, September 5, 1944, in Center Point, WV., he was the son of the late Clyde and Martha McIntire Smith.
Joe was a farmer at heart and loved hunting and camping. He worked many years for West Virginia Department of Highway in Doddridge County. He owned and operated his own logging business in Center Point, WV. Joe also operated heavy equipment at Rosebud Coal Mine and Pole Cat Hollow in Hookstown, PA. and he retired from driving school bus for Southside Garage Inc.
Joe will be deeply missed by his wife, Merry “Maggie” Lightner Smith; children, Brenda Williams, Crystal Price (Kent), Byron “Sonny” Smith (Kathy), Ken Reckner (Christy Smith), Becky Williams (Chuck Wehr), John Reckner (Angela); grandchildren, Jake Ash (Alicia), Tabitha Leonard (Doug), Dalton Ash, Aaron Smith, Austin Smith, Kelly Blinkman (Michael), Kalie Tichnell, Christina Collett, Matt Holiday, Nathan Reckner, Emily Reckner, Ayden Reckner, Macie Reckner, Jessica Metcalf, Caitlyn Williams, Trevor Williams and Carson Williams; great-grandchildren, Sofie, Adeline, and Gabe.
We will celebrate Joe’s life, Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 5:00 PM. Friends may visit with the family Saturday, February 19, 2022, at Arner Funeral Chapel, from 2:00 PM-5:00 PM. Joe will also have a service Sunday, February 20, 2022, at Center Point Church, at 2:00 PM, Salem, WV. There will be a viewing from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM and burial will be held at Center Point Cemetery.
