TRUAX SEEKS COUNTY CLERK POST

My name is Valerie (Cacace) Truax. I am the current Chief Deputy of the Hancock County Clerk’s Office. This year, I am running for County Clerk on the Republican ticket.

I was born and raised in Weirton, with many family members being Weirton Steel employees and some as long-time business owners. My husband Steven and I live in Weirton with our dog, Emma.

I graduated from Madonna High School in 1978 and Fairmont State University in 1982. I worked for 20 years in the Kmart office before coming to the courthouse in 2006, being hired by Eleanor Straight.
I was selected by the current Clerk George Foley to become his Chief Deputy over 7 years ago. I understand what goes into the running of the County Clerk’s Office, and I have stood in for George when needed.

We have had many improvements over the past few years, and I was instrumental in updating the computer system and making our records available online and more accessible to the public with our new online services.

The 2020 election ran smoothly under my direction with the election office. I have filled in many times for George,  being the Commission Secretary at County Commission meetings and also for the Civil Service Board. I have also recently become the secretary of the 911 Advisory Board. I have handled the day-to-day duties of the Clerk’s office by being friendly and accommodating with the public.
I have worked diligently as the Chief Deputy, and I will continue to keep moving in the right direction as County Clerk.
