SOPHIA ARNER NAMED MARCH LIONS SCHOLAR OF THE MONTH

Sophia Arner, 18, is the March recipient of the Lion’s Club Scholar of the month. She is the daughter of Pete and Renee Arner of Chester.  She has a twin brother, Ethan.

A senior at Oak Glen High School, Sophia currently holds a 4.1 GPA.  She has been enrolled in college classes through West Virginia Northern Community College during her junior and senior year. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and the Prom committee.  During her sophomore year, Sophia was chosen to represent Oak Glen in the Weirton Chamber of Commerce Youth Leadership Program. She was a four year member of the homecoming court and was selected for prom court in 2021. Sophia is a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she has been active in the youth group.

Sophia is a four-year member of the cross country and track team. She is a state ranked track and cross-country runner. She was the 2019 OVAC 4A 800-meter champion. In 2021, Sophia was the 800 and 1600-meter OVAC 4A champion. She was the 2021 OVAC 4A cross country champion and received the All Conference First Team award. Sophia was also chosen for the Wheeling Intelligencer All Valley Cross Country team. She was a member of the basketball team her freshman and sophomore year, receiving a varsity letter for her sophomore year of play.

After graduation, Sophia plans to attend West Virginia University in the fall.
