As President Andrew Kefer was absent due to illness, Treasurer Alan Lee brought the meeting to order. Lion Pam Stiles offered the Prayer and Lion Jim Wells led the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting began with information provided on the upcoming Pulled Pork sales scheduled for May 28, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. or as long as the food lasts. At this time there will be pulled pork for sandwiches or a meal with beans and/or potato salad as sides. This will be in front of the Swaney Memorial Library in New Cumberland. The sign-up sheet was circulated through the members present to fill the 4 shifts for the day, including set-up and tear-down.
The minutes were accepted as read and the treasurer’s report was placed on file for audit.
Correspondence was received from Leader Dogs to say Thank You for the recent donation and Boy Scout Donovan Franczek asking for a donation to assist with his Eagle Scout project.
Unfinished Business: The May 28 pulled pork fundraiser coincides with the Moto Guzzi Rally that will be held in New Cumberland over Memorial Day weekend.
Lion Jeanne Cox will provide the truck for the Memorial Day Parage on May 30. Members welcome! Lion Peggy Lee will be the Lion in the parade.
Lion Tom Stiles reported that 6 Lions collected 14 bags of trash when they cleaned our stretch of the highway on April 30.
Lion Jeanne Cox provided a Flag Program to the New Manchester Elementary School 3rd grade students on May 6. She was accompanied by Lion Jim Wells, Lion Peggy Lee, Lion Tom Stiles and World War II veteran Gabriel Arlia. The students all received a miniature Flag at the end of the program. They were very attentive and asked questions. Lion Tom Stiles, a Vietnam Veteran, along with Mr. Arlia are part of the Marine Honor Guard and demonstrated the proper way to fold a Flag.
Lion John Ashcraft made a motion with a second by Lion Joyce Wells to join the Top of WV Convention and Visitors Bureau. Lion Jim Wells made a motion with a second by Lion Bob McNeil to donate to the Eagle Scout project.
New Business: A scholarship from the New Cumberland, Newell, and Chester Lions Clubs was presented to a student in the Culinary Arts program at the John D Rockefeller Career Center. New Cumberland Lions will be joining Chester Lions to purchase the Lions brooms for sale. The next regular meeting will be June 14 and will be the Installation of Officers for the 2022-2023 year. With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
