OBITUARY: GEORGE COX

George Alvin Cox, 89, of New Cumberland, passed away August 17, 2022.

Born in Ligonier, Pa on October 20, 1932, he was the son of the late Harold and Mary (Barnhart) Cox.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dale Cox, three brothers, Willard, Don and Bud Cox and a sister, Betty McElhiney.

George proudly served in the United States Army. He retired from Dravo as a laborer and worked 32 years for the former Globe Brick. He was a member of the American Legion Newell Post 114 the Hancock Senior Center and its Pool League, he was an avid hunter, enjoyed tractor-pulls and tinkering in the garage

His family and his friends were the best part of his life.

Surviving are his devoted and loving wife Nancy (Freeland) Cox of New Cumberland. They were married Sept12, 1959; a two daughters, Robin (Joe) Bahen of Newell and Lisa Cox of Newell. a daughter in law, Patty Cox of New Cumberland; four grandchildren, Pegan (Nick) McGinley, Jacob Cox, Emily Bahen (Bryan Childers,) Shannon (Josh) Thomas, George was known as pap to many children.

Also surviving are two brothers, Bob (Judy) Cox of Pittsburgh and Roy Cox of Hookstown and two sisters, Linda (Tom) McGaffick of Hookstown and Vicky (Ron) Vaughn of Newell.

Visitation is today August 19, from 2-4 and 6-8pm, at the Nixon Funeral Home, Newell, WV, where funeral services will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 20,2022 . The Chester American Legion and V.F.W. Honor Guard will conduct military honors.

Interment will follow in Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens, Newell, WV.
