OBITUARY: JOANNE STEWART

  • Joanne Stewart, eighty-four of Chester passed peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 21, 2022, following a lengthy illness.She was the daughter of the late Walter and Lilla Griffith Doughty Steele. Joanne was born in Carnot, PA., on December 3, 1937.She last worked as a clerk for the City of Chester Water Department and was a member of the Tomlinson Church of Christ in Georgetown. A very generous soul, Joanne enjoyed volunteering for senior groups and providing in-home care for the elderly. In her sparse spare time, she loved to crochet and made Afghans for family and friends. Joanne was a graduate of Aliquippa High School.Along with her parents, her husband, Charles (Pop) Stewart, her sister, Fran Halliday, and her brothers, Paul Rollo, and Jim Doughty preceded her in death.Cherished memories will live on with her children, Elaine (Donnie) Hyatt of Chester, Chuck (Judy) Stewart of Ohioville, Rich (Theresa) Stewart of Ohioville, and Russell (Connie Stewart of Georgetown. In addition, Joanne’s siblings, Harry (Mary Lou) Doughty, Joy Galicic, and Janet (John) Nusseralso survive. There are six grandchildren, Darla Beck, Richard Stewart Jr., Kimberly Martin, Alexandria Stewart, JoAnn Hornlick, and Tim Cox, and three great-grandchildren, Rylee Beck, Jon Beck, and Chloe Stewart.Joanne’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Brianna Perry for her love, compassion, and care during this challenging time.Evangelist Theron Smith will conduct services at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Thursday, August 25, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may visit with her family at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Evangelist David Brewer will lead committal services at the Mill Creek Hill Cemetery on Thursday following the services at the funeral home.
