OBITUARY: LEONARD PITTENGER

Leonard Clark Pittenger Sr. of Chester, the last child born at the family homestead on October 2, 1930, on Pittenger Road in Pughtown, WV. He was surrounded by family who loved and cared for him until his passing on October 24, 2022, at East Liverpool City Hospital while under Hospice Care.

He is preceded by his father, Harry W. Pittenger, and mother, Lillian Clark Pittenger, wife of 54 years, Alice Louise Pittenger, son James W. Pittenger, daughter, Linda King, and six brothers and sisters, Hazel, Jane, Chuck, Harry Jr., Earl, and John.

Family members surviving are son, Leonard C. Pittenger Jr., daughters, Starr Lynn Pittenger, and Jeannie Fisher, grandchildren, Candy King, Natalie Hoelz, Sheila Rogers, and Jessica Pittenger, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Following graduation from Chester High School in 1949, Leonard proudly served four years in the US Army Paratroopers during the Korean War. He was a sixty-year member of the Chester American Legion Post 121 where he served twelve years on the Board of Directors and one year as Post Commander. Leonard was a steel hauler for seventeen years before beginning his thirty-year career as a Boilermaker with Local 85 in Toledo, OH.

Family and friends will deeply miss him because he was always there to help and assist anyone in need.

Friends may visit the family at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Friday, October 28, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Following visitation, Leonard will be laid to rest at the Union Cemetery in New Manchester where the National Guard Honor Guard and the VFW Post 6450 Honor Guard will accord full military honors. Following the committal services, the celebration of Leonard’s life will continue at the Chester American Legion with food and fellowship.
