OBITUARY: MARIAN CAINE

Marian R. Caine, 95, passed away November 1, at The Geriatric Center, Weirton, after a short illness.  She was born January 28, 1927, to the late Harold W. Jones and Hattie Watson Jones.  She was married for 50 years to John L. Caine.  They had three children:  Anita L. Fordyce, Hanover, PA, and two sons, John L. Caine Jr., and Jeffrey Paul Caine, both deceased.   She was also preceded in death by her brothers Frederick Dean Jones, Ft. Myers, FL., and Gary E. Jones, New Cumberland. She is survived by her daughter, Anita and husband Pastor Walter Fordyce; her grandchildren, Sara Beth Steinfort and husband Thomas of Quakertown, PA; Jennifer Timbs and husband Blake of Austin TX, and Stacey Purpura and husband Frank of Wheeling, WV.  She has nine great-grandchildren who she said completed her life.  Little did she know that on the day of her passing, her family learned that she was going to be a great-great grandmother.

Marian lived her entire life in her home in New Cumberland, which she and John built themselves on the land settled by her grandparents.  She served the Lord, her Savior, at Point Pleasant Methodist Church, New Cumberland, throughout all of her life as her family and many others in the area founded the church over 125 years ago. She was the church organist and was recently honored by the West Virginia Methodist Conference for being the longest living active organist in the state.  She played for church services until late 2021. She was also a talented floral designer, decorator and hostess at many Point Pleasant church events and Ladies Aide meetings.  Due to her longevity, her knowledge of New Cumberland and Hancock County people and history can never be matched.  No matter where she went, or who she met, she knew something about their family.

Friends and family are invited to visit with her family beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, at Point Pleasant Methodist Church, 52 Bell Hill Road, New Cumberland WV.  A celebration of her life will be followed at 11:00 a.m.  Rev. Sharmune Burgess and Pastor Walter Fordyce, (her son-in-law) will officiate.

For those desiring to make memorial contributions please send them to the Point Pleasant Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 52 Bell Hill Road, New Cumberland, WV. 26047.
