Richard Dean Blackwell, 81, of New Cumberland, WV passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022 at OSU East in Columbus, OH.
He was born June 27, 1941 in Steubenville, OH a son of the late Joseph Dean & Ruth Clara (McCombs) Blackwell. He is also preceded in death by his wife Barbara Lynn Blackwell; 4 brothers Charles Eugene, Michael Erik, James Robert & Davis Gary Blackwell; and 2 sisters an Infant and Janet Vidmar.
Richard retired from Weirton Steel Corp Company Garage as a Heavy Equipment/ Truck Mechanic; he was a Navy veteran; was a Lifetime Member and former Chief of the NCVFD; was a formr Mayor for the City of New Cumberland and also served on City Council and several other committees within the City; was a member of the NC Lions Club serving on the Board of Directors and was also a Past President and Vice President.
Surviving are his daughter Amy Damis of Weirton, WV; stepdaughters Valerie (James) Barnhouse, Penny (Rick) Tibbs & Shannon (Russell) Geer;2 sisters Jo Ellen Blackwell of New Cumberland, WV and Kathy Maney of North Carolina; 2 brothers Larry (Sue) Blackwell of Weirton, WV and Jon (Belinda) Blackwell of Virginia.; Grandchildren Justin Damis, Clarissa Damis, Katelyn Haspel, Allyson Haspel, Matthew (Ashley) Waggoner, Tyler (Tiffany Rosnick), Levi Wright, Shane (Lacy) Geer & Garrett Geer; his Great- grandchildren Millie Damis, Gavin Blake, Kannon Waggoner, Gage Wright and Arya Wright.
Friends will be received Wednesday from 6 – 8 pm at Turley Funeral Home.
Services will be there Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Rick Tinsky officiating. Military graveside will follow in the New Cumberland Cemetery.
