KOVALCIK BREAKS TWO WLU RECORDS

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The West Liberty University women’s track and field team opened its 2022-23 indoor season yesterday at the YSU Icebreaker.

Maggie Kovalcik highlighted the Hilltoppers opening day with two school records. The junior from New Cumberland, W.Va. started the meet with a 100.91 in the 400m race, placing 12th, to take down a record that stood for the last seven years, a 1:01.69 from Morgan Litton in February of 2015, by less than half a second. Then, Kovalcik took her talents to the pit and shattered the program’s long jump record by nearly half a meter. She leaped a 5.40 and finished in eighth place in the event. “This wasn’t a surprise to me, (Maggie) is a stud,” said Head Coach Justin Simpson.
