Deloras Anne (Harris) Ford, 73, of Chester, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on December 3, 2022. Born, December 4, 1948 in Washington, D.C., she was the daughter & only child of the late Thomas Harris and Mildred (Husk) Cantwell. She was raised in Summers, WV and graduated from Doddridge County High School.She also graduated from Salem (College) University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a master’s degree in Reading Education from Marshall University. She began her career as a teacher in Tyler County. Then, she was the band director for Wells Jr. High School in Newell, WV. Next, she was a general music teacher for all elementary schools in Hancock County and ended her career as the chorus instructor and general music instructor for Oak Glen Middle School and Oak Glen High School in Hancock County. She retired in 2010. She loved teaching students and connecting with them to not only teach music but by sharing the stories behind the music and the musicians. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Erin Elizabeth Ford, in 1983 and her son, Richard Alexander “Alex” Ford, in 2018.Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 54 years, Richard F. Ford, her daughter, Stephanie (Matthew) Jones of Chester, WV and her daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Wherry) Ford of Canonsburg, PA. Also mourning her loss with loving memories are her two grandsons, Niko Jones and Mason Ford. Her pets (TJ, Mama Kitty, Bear and Max) were her constant companions and are missing her greatly.Calling hours will be at Arner Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, December 7, 2022 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Pastor Dan Cesene will celebrate Anne’s life at Arner Funeral Chapel with an open service on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 11am. Interment will be held immediately following at Shadow Lawn Memory Garden in Newell, WV where she will be interred beside her son, Alex.In lieu of flowers, please send donations in her memory to the Hancock County Humane Foundation.
