Kirk C. Swartzmiller, of New Cumberland, WV passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, OH.He was born on December 1, 1955, in Weirton, WV. The son of the late Clair Swartzmiller and Betty Herron. He was also preceded in death by his youngest son, Michael James Swartzmiller, on July 13, 2018.
Kirk was a 1974 graduate of Oak Glen High School. He previously worked for 29 years at Weirton Steel, mainly in the tin mill. After his retirement from the mill, he attended the Ohio Carpenters’ Joint Apprenticeship Program. Upon completion, he worked as a Master Union Carpenter for Local 186 out of Steubenville, OH.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 46 years, Peggy and by his son, Daniel C. Swartzmiller, .In addition to his wife and son, he is also survived by his precious grandchildren Levi and Mason who he was helping raise due to the untimely death of their father, Michael, as well as Rylee and Reid. He is also survived by Levi and Masons mother, Devin. His brother, Mike (Beverly) Swartzmiller. He will also be sadly missed by his mother in-law, Anna Summers, sister in-laws Nila (Gary) Long, Nancy Lightner, Terri (Jeff) Lloyd, Carol Summers, Connie, Summers, Julie (Mike) McCune, Lori (Jeremy) Reed and many many nieces and nephews. Besides his family, Kirk will be greatly missed by his lifelong childhood friends who he also considered his family, Brian Wright, Gary Gray and Joe Archer. Kirk enjoyed fishing and was an avid hunter, most recently taking his grandchildren, Levi and Mason on their first squirrel hunting adventure. He loved being in nature and would often take his grandchildren kayaking, and hiking in the park. Kirk took great pride in his garden that he would plant every year, and would always share his bounty with friends and family. Per Kirk’s wishes, no services will take place.
