Irene M. Javens, 74 of Newell, passed in the emergency room at East Liverpool City Hospital on Sunday, February 19, 2023, after a lingering illness.

She was born in East Liverpool on October 2, 1948. Irene was the daughter of the late Bernard F. Wolfe and Rosalee L. Houghton Ash.

Earlier in her career, she had worked at several area potteries, and she retired as a funeral assistant at the Arner Funeral Chapel. Irene was a member of the Newell First United Methodist Church, and the Chester Lions Club, and a graduate of Oak Glen High School. Give Irene a set of power tools and she could make anything. A jack of all trades, she was a woodworker and expert crafter. Irene loved her animals, she raised chickens, gardened, and canned food. She loved people and engaging in conversation, and she never knew a stranger.

Devastated by her loss is her husband of 54 years, Tom Javens at home. In addition, she leaves her sisters, Jo Ann (Tom) Stine of Newell, and Mary Miniaci of Erie, PA., her brothers, Leonard Wolfe of Newell, and David Ash of Connecticut, and several nieces and nephews.

It was Irene’s wish that no services be held. She is in the care of her family at the Arner Funeral Chapel.
