OBITUARY: DALE EWART WALTERS

Dale Ewart Walters

November 8, 1930 – May 10, 2023

Dale Ewart Walters (92) of Weirton, West Virginia passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 10, 2023.  Dale was born on November 8, 1930 in Weirton, to Gilbert and Clara (Ewart) Walters. Dale led a wonderful life especially hunting, fishing and reading as well as being surrounded by people who loved him.   

Dale started his career working at Weirton Steel and then earned a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering from West Virginia University. After college he joined the Army as a Second Lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Knox. After his honorable discharge his work allowed him to travel including the dredging and widening the Panama Canal, building rocket parts in Utah with Hercules Powder and working in a silver mine in Utah. 

Despite his travels West Virginia was always home.  After retirement, Dale returned to Weirton where he impacted many lives.  Dale was a faithful member of Oakland Presbyterian Church. He was a kind and intelligent soul who was always generous with his time and talents.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Loren Dwight and Barbara Walters, brother-in-law Samuel Kasley, sister-in-law Cecilia Walters and Nephew Bryan Walters.

Dale will be greatly missed by his surviving family including his sister Doris Walters Kasley of Alderson, West Virginia and brother David Wayne (Faye) Walters of Weirton, West Virginia. Nieces and Nephews Michele  and Scott Erickson of Florida, Beth Walters and Kari Roderick of Florida, Stacy and Jim Porter of Weirton, Janine and Lane Turturice of Pennsylvania, John Kasley of Michigan, Marc and Ann Kasley of  Michigan, Susan and Tom Sniegowski of Michigan. Jennifer Morris of Ohio.  Great nieces and nephews, Matt (Cara) Erickson, Chad (David) Conley , Britney (Kyle) McCormick, Lauren, Ethan, Christian and Laken Turturice, Elyse Walters, Maura Ruiz, Maddie (Matt) O’Callaghan, Markus Kokx, Sam Kasley, Owen Kasley, Dylan Sniegowski;  Great-great niece and nephews Quinn, Trent, Michael, Charles and Wade. Additionally his cousin Joe (Sherrie) Miller and their daughter Megan of Ohio, and cousin George Walters of North Carolina.

Services will be held at Turley Funeral Home in New Cumberland with visitation Monday, May 15,from 6 – 8 pm and funeral at 10 am Tuesday, May 16 with burial immediately following at Smithfield Ohio  Cemetery.  The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakland Presbyterian Church.
