OBITUARY: GALE CYRUS “CY” HOBBS

Gayle Cyrus “Cy” Hobbs of Chester passed at his home on Neptune Ave. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, while being wonderfully cared for by his loving family.

84 years old, Cy was born on October 24, 1938, in the town that he loved and lived in his entire life, Chester, WV. His parents were the late Cyrus A. and Anna J. Berresford Hobbs.

Cy spent his life operating the business that his father began in the early days of Chester, Hobbs Tire and Supply. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he graduated from Chester High School in 1956, and was a member of the Army Reserves.

Cy enjoyed vacationing at Myrtle Beach with his family and challenging all takers to a game of 1:1 basketball at the playground.

Devastated by his loss is his wife, Josephine DeSarro Hobbs, who Cy married on September 13, 1958, his children, Joanna (Chuck) Bailey, Jennifer Hobbs, Julie (Brian) Kliner, and Jason Hobbs, all of Chester, his grandchildren who he adored and was so proud of, Allison (Clay) Owings, Mackenzie Bailey, Justin Bailey, Adriana Hobbs, Chris Bailey, Hannah Kliner, and Katie Kliner, and his great-grandchildren, Cameron Bailey-Siegel, Morgan Owings and Madeline Owings. He will also be missed by his brother, Charles (Rita) Hobbs, and sister, Anita (Marty) Kukich. 

He was preceded in death by his sister, Jane Jones.

Father Jeeson Stephan will preside for Catholic Funeral Liturgy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, June 3 at 10:00 a.m. Friends are invited to visit with Cy’s family at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Friday, June 2, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in Wellsville.
