ENICH SWORN IN AS SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT

Dan Enich was sworn in as Hancock County’s School Superintendent at Monday’s Board of Education meeting.  Enich, was accompanied by his wife Lisa  with Administrative Assistant Kim Arnott, a notary public, performing the ceremony.

Enich shared his goals of establishing relationships with businesses and the community in both the north and south end of the county.  He shared his goals which included emphasis on the STEM programs and working cooperatively with staff and faculty.  He stressed the accountability educators have to the taxpayers, “We are none of us self-employed.” He read from a list of expectations for the coming.

The Board once again tabled action on  the Oak Glen’s turf and lighting projects.  Enich said he had met with Oak Glen principal Dave Smith the Oak Glen community that afternoon concerning the project.  Both Smith and Girls’ Softball Coach Sherri Garner said they had a good meeting with Enich.

Enich said he wanted to review financial information on the project  with the Board prior to a vote being taken.  An item on the agenda can only be tabled twice according to Robert’s Rules of Order.  The project will be on the agenda at July    meeting and at that time a vote will have to be taken at the Board’s next regular meeting July 24.

In other business, the Board:

**Accepted the resignation  Melissa Freshwater, teacher, 1st grade, Weirton Elementary, and Ty Logston, PE teacher, Weir Middle;

**Accepted the resignation of Ray Six as Assistant Girls’ Basketball coach, Oak Glen;

**Approved assistant basketball coaching assignments for Troy Whitaker and Ron Smith;

**Accepted the resignation of Elissa Greathouse as sponsor of Oak Glen’s Senior class, NHS and Art Club;

**Approved unpaid leave of absence  for Beverly Dawson, secretary Board office and Trudy McAvoy, supervisory aide (ECCAT) New Manchester;

**Accepted the resignation of Charidy Ward as a substitute aide; Kathryn Hayes, cook III, Oak Glen; Mary Catlett, Supervisory Aide, Weirton Elementary;

**Approved Jerry Bucci as a Custodian II, Weirton Elementary;
