NEWELL SPONSORS FULL DAY OF EVENTS

Nobody throws a party like a small town, and in Newell, WV, on Saturday Aug 12, there will be a party unlike any other in the area. Inspired by an event in the City of Eagle, Idaho, The Newell Community Improvement Coalition and Newell Volunteer Fire Department will host a day that will start with food truck vendors setting up in front of the old Wells Junior High Building at 11am. At 1pm, the fire department will organize their fire truck pull event. Local fire stations, sports teams, businesses, and just friends and family can put together a team of 10 to see who can pull the truck the fastest. Also at 1pm, the corn hole tournament dubbed the “Cornament” will take place, along with Dime Bingo. Plenty of fun for everyone leading up to the Water Parade, where those in the parade will aim their water guns at the crowd who will douse them back at 4pm. Buzz is around town for folks preparing their floats and water pistols, although water balloons are not allowed. You can register online ahead of time at http://www.laurelhollowpark.net/funday or on the day of the event. It’s a great and fun way to promote team building for a business, team or family. It can be a float or even just the back of a pickup truck.
The volunteer groups plan to build this event into an annual day in which more and more people and businesses will want to participate. As an inaugural year, the budget was too tight to afford the supplies for the planned mud volleyball tournament, but if proven successful, the 2024 event should build into more activities.
