CHESTER – President Connie Doughty conducted the monthly meeting of the Chester Garden Club at The Lynn Murray Memorial Library on Wednesday, August 23rd. After members recited The Pledge of Allegiance, Donna Stevens read “A Powerful Prayer” taken from the Church of Christ newsletter and led members in The Garden Club Prayer. Treasurer Mary Ann Wright reported that a donation had been sent to the Hippsley Foundation in Columbiana, Ohio. Paige Rayle displayed the new fall decorations that have been purchased for the planters along Carolina Avenue. They will be installed after the summer flowers have been removed. Doughty announced that the new Garden Club Facebook page is up and running. The club made plans to hold a plant sale next spring at the library. In preparation for the sale, a seed exchange will be held at the October meeting. Members will bring seeds from their home flower gardens and share them with other members of the group. Doughty reported that several people had requested copies of the club’s first jigsaw puzzle, Shoot the Chutes, a scene from Rock Springs Park. Since none remain, the group voted to order ten copies of the original puzzle in the series. If they sell, more will be ordered. The group made plans to visit The Gardens at Hippley Village on Saturday, October 7th, to view the fall flower displays. They will meet at the library at 1:00 PM and carpool to Columbiana. The next meeting will be at The Lynn Murray Memorial Library on Wednesday, September 27th, at 1:00 PM. Membership in the Chester Garden Club is open to residents of all local communities who have an interest in gardening and who are willing to support club projects. Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend the next meeting.
