BOARD OF EDUCATION LEARNS ABOUT PROFICIENCY SCORES

The Hancock County Board of Education learned about the State Proficiency scores from Director of Curricu;um Kiristen Bissett.  A report on test scores indicate that Hancock County’s scores have remained above the average State Scores..  She noted  that during the pandemic students weren’t tested, but upon return to school the scores had showed a decline, but are steadily improving each year.

Students received their reports on Sept. 20 and parents who had not received are encouraged to call the schools.  The report of how Hancock County fared against other scores can be viewed on the West Virginia Educatiion dashboard.

The Board went into Executive Session to discuss a parent who was alleged to have violatd the parent/athle e contract which both parent and the student/athlete sign agree  to a standard of conduct.  The parents wereS present with their attorney, Alex Risovich, and attened a portion of the Executive Session.  The Board emerged from Executive Session and took no action.

In other business, the Board:

**Accepted the resignations of Rosemary Morris and Emily Burrier;

**Approved transfers for Sarah Alkire from Multi-Categorical, Autism, Weir High to Multi Categorical/ JDR and Jeffrey Aspenlieter from Grade 4, Weir Middle to Social Studies, Weir Middle;

**Approved Denise Roberts as a countywide substitute teache;

**Approved an unpaid day for Ashley Thomas;

**Accepted the resignation of Stephanie Fidak as assistant softball coac,h, Oak Glen High, and Dan Lawrence, assistant girls basketball, Oak glen middle;

**Approved teaching in lie of planning period for Cara McMahon’

**Accepted the resignation of David Dalton, Custodian II, Weir High;

**Accepted the resignation of Teena Smithbauer, supervisory aide, and Judy Mullins, transportation supervisory aide;

**Assigned Kaitlyn Bilak as Supervisory Aide II-IV, Weirton Elementary;

**Transferred Cody Star from custodian II, Weir High to Custodian II, Weir Middle;

**Transferred Barb Swan to Supervisory Aide, transportation;

**Approved Courtney Wolanski as substitute bus driver and Teena Smithbaurer as substitute aide;

**Approved Tina Viakley as FBLA sponsor at Oak Glen High
