The minimum bid of $150,000.00 for the New Cumberland Municipal Building was not received during the online auction held October 17. City Clerk Tammy Jenkins said the highest bid received during the auction was $60,000.00 which was not sufficient. While the building was purchased for $1 from the Board of Education, the City put in an elevator and made multiple improvements including the roof, multi-purpose room and steam boiler. The building does generate $50,000.00 per year in rent from the WVU Extension Office and the WV Family Court.
Jenkins said the City will now wait until Spring to put the building up for auction again..
The work continues on the new city building, located on River Avenue.. The contract for repointing the brick on the building was awarded to Magnone, the sole bidder, for $25,000.00.
Council will meet again on Nov. 6 at 5 p.m.
