Tyler McKay, 17, has been recognized as Oak Glen High School’s Lions Scholar of the Month for November 2023. Tyler is the son of Tony and Rachel Wright-McKay of Chester.
A senior at Oak Glen High School, Tyler carries a 4.2 GPA and is involved in many sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities. Tyler is 3-year letter winner in baseball and letter winner in soccer. In 2023, Tyler was a WV AA Section Champion and Regional Finalist in baseball. Throughout high school, Tyler has been on the Principal’s Honor Roll every year.
Tyler is an active member of the National Honor Society and currently Vice President of the Oak Glen chapter. Tyler was recently recognized as “Distinguished” in both Math & English/Language Arts by Hancock County Schools. In 2022, Tyler was selected by the American Legion Post 121 to attend the American Legion Mountaineer Boys State held at WVU Jackson’s Mill. Tyler was also voted as a member of the Prom Court his junior year. In 2020, Tyler won the West Virginia Golden Horseshoe Award.
Tyler is also a member of the Key Club, Prom Committee, and WV Judicial Scholars Club. During his free time, Tyler enjoys volunteering with youth sports programs and giving back to the community.
Following graduation, Tyler plans to study computer science and is undecided on which university he will attend.
