The Hancock County Democratic Women held their monthly meeting on November 14, 2023 at B4 Burgers, Pennsylvania Avenue, Weirton, West Virginia with President Teresa McCombs calling the meeting to order, welcoming those in attendance and leading in the Pledge Of Allegiance.
Silent attendance was taken.
Secretary Pam Allison was absent. President McCombs read the minutes that were submitted to her by Secretary Pam Allison by email.
The Treasurer’s Report was read and will be filed for an audit.
The Weirton Christmas Parade was further discussed. The Christmas Parade is on Saturday November 25th at 6:00 P.M. The line up is at 3:00 P.M. and Alesia Brogdon will let the group know where the lineup begins. Past President Anna Gillespie will use her truck and Alesia Brogdon is arranging a utility trailer to be attached to the truck. Chair Kathy Link of the Hancock County Executive Committee will provide Democratic Banners. The utility trailer will be decorated with Christmas Lights, blow up characters donated by Past State President Anna Gillespie. We will pass out candy bags with our Business Cards inside the candy bags. Alison Martin is purchasing the candy and filling the bags. Dina Carnes made a motion to approve a spending limit of $25.00 to $30.00 for the candy bags. Seconded by Stephanie Valentine Motion carried. We can wear light up necklaces and/or santa hats and Democratic Shirts or anything festive. Alesia Brogdon brought up the possibility of using a portable heater to stay warm on the utility trailer, If anyone has one, let Alesia Brogdon know. So far those participating in the parade are President Teresa McCombs, Gina Cross. Stephanie Valentine. Hancock County Democratic Women President-elect Alesia Brogdon, Past State President Anna Gillespie, Brooke County Democratic Women President-elect Katherine Morgan and her two boys.
Gina Cross is making the arrangements for a Christmas get together at the Garden Grill Steakhouse on Three Springs Drive, Weirton. It is scheduled on December 12th at 4:30 P.M. The price will be $25.00 each and that will include the tip. The menu is being finalized by Gina Cross and as soon as the same is finalized Kathy Link will email everyone with a proper invitation. An invitation via email will go out to each member and guests. In lieu of a gift exchange, please feel free to donate a monetary gift for the Community Breadbasket.
We will have our installation of new officers on the same date and place. The new officers will be: Alesia Brogdon, President-elect; Marianne Turkal, Vice-President-elect; Kathy Link, Secretary-elect. and Dina Carnes, Treasurer-elect. They will be installed by Past State President Anna Gillespie. We discussed and approved paying for the Guest Speaker who participates in the installation ceremony.
Alesia Brogdon made the motion to reserve two dates at T. Kosciuszko Hall for future events at $50.00 each. Seconded by Dina Carnes. Motion carried.
It was noted that Alesia Brogdon was recognized as Hancock County Democrat of the Year during the annual Roosevelt-Kennedy dinner held in Charleston at the end of October. The dinner event is to pay tribute to “a remarkable woman in the community who embodies courage, compassion and dedication.
With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
The next meeting will be held on December 12, 2023 at 4:30 P.M. at the Garden Grill Steakhouse. This will be our Christmas Party and Installation of new Officers.
The Hancock County Democratic Women welcomes new members. All Hancock County Democratic Women are invited to join the group and support our cause. Dues are $10.00 per person for the year and are due when you join.
