OAK GLEN HIGH STUDENTS CERTIFIED AS VITA TAX PREPARERS

The Hancock County Board of Education heard about a program Oak Glen High’s Business Department is conducting in cooperation with VITA (Volunteers Income Tax Assistance) that has certified students to prprepare simple tax returns for individuals with incomes up to $64,000.00 Oak Glen High is one of only two high schools in the State of West Virginia Certified to do so.

Oak Glen’s Business Department is working with the West Virginia Alliance for Sustainable Families. the statewide leader of the Earned Income Tax Credit Outreach Campaign by providing support and technical assistance to regional outreach coalitions accross the state. The Alliance reports it has been able to serve thousands of West Virginians and keep millions of dollars in our State’s Economy. They have prove free income tax prep since 1969. Robert Jones of the Alliance has been providing technical assistance to the students through the business CTE program which enhances employable skills of the students.

The program will begin Feb 1 through March 28 and operate during non-school hours of 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. The program will be located at Oak Glen High’s Media Room which has a direct outside entrance. OGHS Principal Frank Crain stressed that every physical or technical need will be provided to make the program run smoothly.
