OBITUARY: ROBERT APPLEDORN

Robert Leo (Bob) Appeldorn, 96 years old, of Chester, WV, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2003, at East Liverpool City Hospital.Bob was born April 19, 1927, in Huntington, WV, to the late Leo and Elizabeth Appeldorn.He is a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Chester where he served many years as a Eucharistic minister and CCD administrative assistant. He is a member of the American Legion Post 121 in Chester and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He started making rosaries to advance devotion to Jesus through the Blessed Virgin Mary more than twenty-five years ago. He has distributed thousands of his rosaries worldwide through various Catholic churches and organizations.At eighteen, Bob joined the Navy and served in World War II as a naval shipman on the USS Biloxi. Bob worked nearly thirty years at Crucible Steel in Midland, PA, several years for Schneider Power Corporation in Shippingport, PA, and he owned and operated Appeldorn’s House of Clock in East Liverpool.Surviving is wife of 45 years, Mary Appeldorn, daughters Joann Appeldorn and Kathy Disch, grandchildren, Danielle (Glenn) Disher, Matt Disch, John Eric (Marie) Disch, Joe and Andrea Disch, great-granddaughter, Anna Disch, sister Mary Jane Dardi, and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Mary Jo Appeldorn, son, David Appeldorn, daughter-in-law, Sandra Appeldorn, daughters, Barbara Disch and Diane Manypenny, infant great-grandsons, Owen Robert, and John Glenn and Samual Alan Disher, and his sister, Rita Winchell.Rosary will be recited at the Arner Funeral Chapel on Monday at 5:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church with Father Bill Matheny, and Father John Neiman presiding on Tuesday, January 2, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Columbiana County Memorial Park where full military honors will be afforded.  Friends are invited to visit Bob’s family at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.Memorial contributions may be made in Bob’s name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church @ 418 Forth St., Chester, WV. 26034
