OBITUARY: RICHARD RODGERS

On December 30, 2023, Richard H. (Dick) Rodgers of New Cumberland, WV, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by family, in Charleston, WV, at the age of 97. Mr. Rodgers was born in and lived all his life until the last few years in New Cumberland. In 2011, he moved to Fox’s in Chester, WV, to be close to his wife, Ilene Veronica Manypenny Rodgers, who was at the nursing home there. (She passed away in 2013.) In March 2022, he moved to Teays Valley to be closer to family in the Charleston area. Mr. Rodgers married his wife in 1949, and they had five children who have survived them: Kerri Lyn Petry (Charles) of Belle, WV; Sherri Brown (Peter) of Gold River, CA; Richard Terrance (Terry) Rodgers (Karen) of Charleston, WV; Beth Ann Powell (Richard) of Sanibel, FL; and Robert Randall (Randy) Rodgers (April) of Charlottesville, VA. In addition, he had 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and another on the way. Mr. Rodgers served in the Army Air Force during WWII. Afterwards, he started work at Weirton Steel and then moved to National Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh, where he retired as the Manager of Sales in 1992. He was an active member of the New Cumberland Lions Club for over 50 years and a member of the New Cumberland Christian Church for over 70 years. Visitation hours will be held at Nixon’s Funeral Home in New Cumberland on Sunday, December 31, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be held at New Cumberland Christian Church on Monday, January 1, 2024, at 11 a.m. Mr. Rodgers will be buried beside his wife at the New Cumberland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the New Cumberland Christian Church or the New Cumberland Lions Club
