OBITUARY: WANDA HOOD

  •  Wanda L. Hood of Chester passed peacefully at the Orchards Rehabilitation Center in East Liverpool on Sunday, January 7, 2024.Wanda was born in Shadyside, Ohio. She passed after celebrating her 96th birthday on January 3. She was born in 1928, to the late Clarence and Lucile Giffen Ramsay.Her love of children led her to thirteen years of teaching. Her most notable and fondest memories were teaching numerous Chester children at Chester Kindergarten. Also, she taught at Lacroft Elementary. Later, she retired from the office staff at the Airco Wire plant. Wanda was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Chester where she served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher. Also, she was a long-time member of the Chester Arts Club. She graduated from West Liberty University where she met the love of her life, Donald Hood, and developed her passion for education. Earlier, she graduated from Bellaire High School in Bellaire, OH.In addition to her parents, her husband Donald Hood, her siblings, Harry, Howard, Harold, and Laverne Ramsay, Wilma Caldwell, and Dolores Burkhart, her brother-in-law, Sam Burkhart, and her sister-in-law Doris Ramsay preceded her in death.Wanda leaves her children, Cheryl (Carmen) Loffredo of Charlotte, NC, Deborah Pasco of Chester, and Dawn (James) Toth of The Villages, FL, and her brother, Clarence “Junior” (Shirley) Ramsay of Bellaire. Her love of family blessed her with four grandchildren, Ryan (Teri) Pasco, Joseph Toth, Megan (Matt) Brady, and Leane (Keith) Fochi, and ten great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Nathan, and Alex Pasco, Carter, Hudson, and Reid Brady, Colton, Chase, and Cannon Fochi, and Stella Toth.Friends are invited to visit Wanda’s family at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Friday, January 12, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. Rev. Frank and Katrina Lewis will celebrate Wanda’s life following the visiting hours at 2:00 p.m. Entombment will take place at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made in Wanda’s name to the Westminster Presbyterian Church @ 508 Indiana Ave, Chester, WV.  26034.
