Chester City Council approved the1st reading of the 2024-02 Water Rate increase at Monday night’s meeting. The rate increase must be approved by the Public Service Commission. The second reading of the ordinance will take place at the next Council meeting and prior to the meeting and the vote a public hearing will be held on the matter. The ordinance permits the issuance of not more than $1,700,000 in aggregate principal amount amount of combined bonds to finance the program.
In other business, Council:
**Approved placement of receipts of $89,671.52 into the General Fund;
**Approved the payment of $99,139.54 in bills;
**Approved the placement of $5,115.00 into the building fund;
**Approved the payment of $6,998.35 from the building fund;
**Voted to donate $1,000 to the Hancock County Police Reserves;
**Approved the continuance of the part-time police officer Incentive Program;
**Agreed to purchase 9 mm caliber handguns as duty guns for the police force. Chief Chuck Hamilton said that 50% of th
$8,000 cost of the guns could be recouped by selling off the old weapons;
**Voted not to pay a Biztec Invoice of $690.23 Personnel disputed the services claimed to have been provided and
Council has been dissatisfied with the service provided by the company;
**Were informed a 6.9 % increase will go into effect by Waste Management. The increase has been approved by the Pubic Service Commission.
