JEFF DAVIS WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION

Long-time public servant Jeff Davis told attendees and his fellow commissioners at Thursday’s meeting that he will not be a candidate for his Commission seat in the 2024 Election. Davis first entered the political arena as a member of the House of Delegates in 1996 when incumbent the late Sam Love, Jr. ran for County Assessor. He served two terms in the House of Delegates and in 2000 defeated incumbent George Kource for the Grant District seat of the Hancock County Commission. Davis would then serve consecutive terms on the Commission,

During his tenure, the Commission dealt with controversial issues including taking over the operation of the Hancock County Animal Shelter and a smoking ban in eating establishments and bars with exceptions for those establishments with video lottery machines.

Hancock County would also see the construction of its first ever dog park and improvements to the athletic complex at Gas Valley Road, The acquisition of grants to enable infrastructure needs of water and sewage will be remembered during Davis’s tenure for being key to future economic development..

Known as a hard-working, down-to-earth Commissioner, Davis continued to work everyday maintaining his properties and businesses. He’ll be remembered for being accessible and always willing to look for a solution to any problem a constituent might bring to him.
