COMMISSIONERS RECOGNIZE MURRAY FARM AS CENTURY FARM

The Hancock County Commission heard from Chuck Glenn, district conservation supervisor, at Thursday’s meeting.  Glenn recognized the Murray Farm in Hancock County which was founded in 1818 and whose legacy is being carried on by two brothers who are direct descendants.  Dooby Brown said that the farm currently has 30 head of Angus beef and he and his brother are “carrying on what’s been left to us.”

In order be designated a Century Farm the same family must have operated the farm on the same plot of land for 100 years.

The Commission provided an open letter the City of Weirton had written State officials requested infrastructure help in the Northern Panhandle.  Commissioners  Jeff Davis and Eron Chek signed the letter (Cowey was unable to make the meeting) as did Mayors from Chester, New Cumberland, Weirton, Steubenville, Wellsburg and other governmental representatives and community members.  Twenty-five were in attendance at the meeting with 14 being governmental officials.  The letter addressed concern that the condition of the bridges, roads and road lighting is becoming an impediment to the economic development the area is just now seeing.

**Accepted and approved an order to reopen the Estate of Edith J. Anderson;
