OLD MUNICIPAL BUILDING SOLD

The New Cumberland  Municipal Building on Court Street has been sold at auction for $120,000.00 at an on-line  public auction held by Kaufman Realty.  This marks the second time the building has been put up for auction, with the first attempt failing to meet the reserve.

The buyer of the propery is Miguel Angel Charnico, Jr. of Miami, Florida.   The property at 204 Pearl Street (formerly the home of Blake’s Beer Joint and other business, now a vacant lot) was purchased for $11,000.oo by Bryce Custer.  Custer is also the owner of the former Graham’s building.

The New Cumberland school is the already generates rental income as it in currently home to the WVU Extension Service/4-H program; Family Court offices; and provides storage space for the Hancock County Commission.  The food closet and the New Cumberland Social Services also provide service  through the building.

In other business Council:

**Council learned that the former Porter Home at 600 Ridge Avenue had been demolished;

**Approved the purchase of new police radios, laptop, scanners and printer;

**Prepared for the impending move into the new city building on River Avenue by purchasing by approving the purchasing of furniture;

**Approved the Purchase of a new phone system for the City Building;

**Council discussed the problems being caused by a councilperson missing meetings resulting in lack of quorums.  Without a quorum present Council cannot take any action.  There appears to be no attendance requirement codified in the Ci ty’s bylaws.  Mayor Will White will have a conversation with the Councilsperson to explain the problems being created because of her lack of attendance.
