OBITUARY: ANN REED

Ann Y. Reed, 85, of Chester, WV., went home to the Lord on March 15, 2024.

She was born on March 24, 1938, to Ruth Enochs Brown and Rollie B. Brown, Sr.

Ann’s first love was her family. She raised three children and was then blessed with five grandchildren. She always said her goal was to be the best grandma ever and she was epic. She spoiled her grands and let them get away with everything. She watched forbidden TV shows with them, let them swear when with her, and made sure they always felt her love.

Ann’s career began at Gowers Bakery in Chester. She worked as a cook from 1965-1973. In 73 she bought Franks Pastry shop and found her passion. Ann loved making her customers smile and adding a touch to their celebrations. Her customers became family. Ann put Chester on the map with her bakery and had articles published in several state magazines. She baked with love until the business was sold in 2021.

After retirement, Ann was able to enjoy her friends and family. She could be found playing cards with friends, scooting around town on her electric scooter, or watching and spoiling her grand dog, Daisy.

As we mourn our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. We are comforted by the words of sympathy and love from the community. She was loved and will be missed by so many.

Ann was survived by her son, James R. Reed, Jr. (Shelly); daughters Peggy LaScola, and Margie Potts (Brian); grandchildren, Alexis Kwon (Alex), Sarah Hodge (Jason), William Whitehill (Laura), Cody Potts (Ashee) and Paden Potts (Claire); great-grandchildren, Joanna, Harriet, and William Whitehill, Liam, Grant, and Mila Potts, Connon, Weston and Bellamy Potts and Ty Owen and her grand dogs, Daisy Kwon and Hank Hodge.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Rollie Brown, Sr.; siblings, Artis Calhoun, Naomi Koteski, and Rollie B. Brown, Jr.

Ann was an avid reader and childhood friend of Lynn Murray. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Lynn Murray Memorial Library.

The family would like to thank the staff at Stone Pear Pavilion for their excellent and loving care.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at 3:00 PM, at Arner Funeral Chapel. Memorial visitation will be held Saturday before the service from 11-3:00 PM.  Dinner following at the Chester VFW.
