The meeting was called to order by 3rd Vice President Betsy Wells. Lion Rick Tinsky offered the Prayer and Lion Jim Wells led the Pledge of Allegiance. Guest Charles Bourque was introduced. The minutes were accepted as read and the Treasurer’s report was placed on file for audit. Communications were received from the WV Lions Sight Conservation Foundation for the recent donation made by the Club. A message was received from the Chester Lions Club regarding students for the Youth Leadership Academy held at Camp Horseshoe. The Middle School guidance counselor has 2 possible students who will take advantage of this opportunity sponsored by the New Cumberland, Chester, and Newell Lions Clubs. A $120 Donation was received by the New Cumberland Lions Club from the Nessly Chapel United Methodist Church presented by Charles Bourque. This will be added to the Club’s Sight Fund that is used to provide vision screenings and glasses for local residents. Flag Day was presented to 3rd grade students at the New Manchester Elementary School on April 19 by 2nd Vice President Jeanne Cox with help from Lions Peggy Lee, Jim Wells, Don Deemer and Joyce Young. The Adopt A Highway road clean-up was on April 20 with 9 Lions and 2 guests cleaning a 3-mile stretch of highway, collecting 30 bags of litter. Towels are needed for the Good Zoo in Wheeling. These can be old, used but cannot have holes in them. Bottle caps are being collected by the local 4H Club to be used to build benches. The towels and bottle caps can be donated to any New Cumberland Lions Club Member. Memorial Day weekend will be the first pulled pork of the season. The pulled pork is provided by Buckey’s Smokehouse & Catering of Weirton. The event will be May 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Swaney Memorial Library parking lot. The New Cumberland Memorial Day parade will be 1:00 p.m. on May 27 with line-up at noon. The Lions Scholar of the Month scholarship winner will be chosen and the scholarship awarded at the Oak Glen and John D Rockefeller IV school awards presentations. The next meeting will be WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, at the Christian Church due to the PRIMARY ELECTION being held on May 14 with the Christian Church a designated polling place. With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
