Lifelong farmer, Elbert M. Allison joined his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 1, 2024. He died peacefully while in the loving care of his family on the family farm that he loved so much, in the family house that he was born in on May 2,1938. Elbert lived 86 years on this earth, the son of the late Donald and Ethel Yonally Allison.
He farmed the Hi View Acres Farm all his life. A good sense of humor being necessary to farm for that many years, Elbert’s mantra was “Pullin Plows and feedin’ Cows”. As if running a farm isn’t enough, Elbert pursued his passion, operating dozers and backhoes. He was well known for his excavation work throughout the area. Also, he worked for the Hancock County School System as a bus driver, mechanic, and supervisor. Elbert possessed a strong Christian faith. He was involved in several church ministries and had a hand in organizing and starting many new churches. He was a founding member and past president of the Hancock County Farm Bureau, a member of ASCS, a farm conservation agency, a member of the board of directors of Locust Hill Cemetery Association, and a member of the Farm Service Agency. He was a founding member of the Hancock County Old Time Fair and was instrumental in the resurgence of the fair.
Along with his parents, his first wife, Joy Allison, and siblings, Helen Johnson, Marie Elliott, Margaret Kissoon, and Robert, Deane, Ray, and Errett Allison preceded him in death.
Saddened by his loss are his wife, Darlene Keifer Allison, his children, Denise (Bill Rizor) Allison, and Douglas (Sherry) Allison; grandchildren, Daniel and Cate Allison; his brother, Myron (Chris) Allison stepchildren, Richard (Rebecca) Thomas, and Dorothy Thomas; brother-in-law, Leonard (Cathy) Keifer; sister-in-law, Estelle Keifer; and step-grandchildren, Allie, Ashlyn (Nate), Adam, Aric, Asher, Haley, Sydney, and Brianna.
Pastors Randy Clark and Rev. Robert Kern will celebrate Elbert’s life at the Arner Funeral Chapel in Chester on Wednesday, June 5, at 11:00 a.m. He will be laid to rest at the Locust Hill Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit the family at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Elbert’s family would like to thank all the caretakers and medical staff who assisted him through his journey.
