OBITUARY: RALPH EDWIN “ED” MCCOY

Ralph Edwin (“Ed”) McCoy, 71, of Johns Island, SC, was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 8, 2024.

Ed was married to his loving wife Loretta (Daugherty) for 44 years. Ed was the proud father of his two daughters Maggie Ramsey (Jeremy) and Rachel Richman (Stephen). Ed and Loretta have four precious grandchildren: Caroline, Calvin, Martha, and Emmett.

Ed was born on August 6, 1952 in Aliquippa, PA to Ralph and Frances, who proceeded him in death along with his brother, John.  Ed was a Boilermaker in Local 154 (Pittsburgh) for 35 years.  He taught Sunday School at United Brethren in Christ Church in East Liverpool, Ohio for 20 years. He was a member of Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina for the 12 years that proceeded his death.

Ed will be missed for his witty sense of humor, generous and tender heart, hard work ethic of leadership, loving care of his family and his wisdom.  His legacy lives on through his daughters and grandchildren, who were his life’s work, and of whom he was most proud.  He is also mourned by his sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

Ed lived a courageous and confident life, often quoting Philippians 1:21, “for to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”

His funeral will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Nixon Funeral Home in Newell, WV.  Calling hours begin at 12pm with a service at 2pm. A celebration of his life will occur at a later date in Charleston, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s name may be made to Respite Care Charleston (www.RespiteCareCharleston.org), which provided such loving care and support for Ed and his family in his last two years
