Chris Gillette, current President of the Hancock County Board of Education, was re-elected President of the Board on a 3-2 vote. Board Vice President Ed Fields was also nominated for the President’s position but failed to get the votes to unseat Gillette. Fields was nominated for the position by newly-seated Board member Randy Swartzmiller while Gillette was nominated by Gerard Spencer. The roll call vote found Gillette, Horstman and Spencer voting for Gillette and Fields and Swartzmiller voting for Fields.
Gillette nominated Fields for Vice President and Fields was elected by a unanimous vote. Fields then asked if the President’s vote could be revisited so that the vote for Gillette could be unanimous. He was informed that that was not procedurally possible.
