MEDIA RELEASE FROM SHERIFF SCOTT GITTINGS

Sept 3, 2024

As of August 29th, I terminated the employment of Deputy Pat Hoder after he was charged with possession of Child Pornography. We learned of the investigation being conducted by the West Virginia State Police in July of 2024. As soon as we were informed that Hoder was the focus of the investigation we placed him on administrative leave. On August 29th, I was notified charges were going to be filed and was informed of the evidence against Hoder, I immediately took action to terminate him from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office.

First of all, I must say how completely saddened, disappointed and angry I am about the events of the past few days. Even though one individual did this completely horrible act, the whole Sheriff’s Office will suffer. There was never an attempt to hide, cover up, or excuse the action of this one person. As soon as we learned of the evidence, action was taken. Every member of the Hancock County Sheriff’sOffice condemns and is sickened by this news.

I would like to remember all the victims of child pornography as their innocence has been stolen from them and pray that one day these inhumane acts will be ended forever. I also want to pray for the family of Pat Hoder, as they too are victims of his actions, whose lives have been totally torn apart.

Respectfully

Sheriff Scott Gittings Hancock County Sheriff’s Office
