Things are quiet on the local front when it comes to the election. November is not far away and I’ve yet to see any attention to the Sheriff’s race. While it’s the sole contested race in Hancock County, it’s yet to generate attention. It should. Who your Sheriff is and what his qualifications and mode of operation is a big deal. In a few days I’ll be sending a questionnaire to both Sheriff Scott Gittings and challenger Dezo Polgar. They are both well-known in the law enforcement community, but we need to look at their views given the challenging times in which we live. Do you have any questions you’d like answered? Send them to us at [email protected]. Do they have additional programs or safeguards when it comes to school safety? Do they feel the Sheriff should be a presence in the community? What qualifications should their chief deputy have and what role should he/her play in the Sheriff’s department.
Times have changed and the role of the Sheriff has evolved in my estimation. Make sure you cast your vote with all the knowledge you can gain because someone’s life may depend upon it.
