Why do I support passage of the School Levy?
Safety: I think the primary importance of this Levy will be to upgrade the safety levels at each of the schools. It’s obvious that with the climate in the United States right now, safety is paramount to teachers, students and staff. The Levy is to add an important additional level of safety through various technical and physical means.
Infrastructure: There are a lot of infrastructure needs that the school system has to upgrade and maintain its infrastructure for both safety and educational reasons. A large portion of the levy will be allocated to that as the second most important item besides safety as enumerated above.
Financial Rate of Return: While it may seem strange to address this as an item in this letter, I believe that the incremental cost associated which the County subject to the Levy may be minimal compared to the economic benefit that they will receive as a result of these upgrades and safety and infrastructure.
I believe Hancock County is going through an economic resurgence and it’s important that the atmosphere and the amenities that are provided in the school system are an extremely important value add to houses that are going to be sold. It is my understanding that the average cost to a household will be about $40/year. If the economic projections prove to be real, then the added benefits provided by this Levy will more than return this to taxpayers and property owners of Hancock County.
