Hancock County Commission Receives Another Resignation from Park Board

The Hancock County Commission received yet another resignation from a Board member of the Parks & Recreation Board. Jeremy Pauley submitted a resignation to the Commission which was accepted at Thursday’s meeting. The Commission also voted to advertise for a new member to fill the open post.

Three members of the Board had resigned at the Sept. 26th meeting: Nick Travis, Sarah Cale and Corinna Meyers, leaving only two Board members with the most recent resignation. A Folklore Festival which had been planned for Oct. 12 at the Gas Valley Complex was subsequently cancelled, but at the urging of the public will now be held.

The Park Board is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the County’s Parks, Gas Valley Complex which includes cutting of the grass and maintaining the grounds. With the reduced budget due to the loss of 50 percent of the Racetrack Video Lottery Revenue, the Commission is now responsible for 50 percent of the grass cutting and had asked the Park Board to pick up the other 50 percent of the cost. While the Park Board maintains its own budget, it ultimately falls under the County Commission purview.

In other business, the Commissioners:

**Approved the position of office assistant on a 2 to 1 vote with Commissioner Paul Cowey casting the dissenting vote. The Commission also approved advertising the position;

**Approved the hiring of Travis George and Jeff Luck as full-time 911 Dispatchers

**Made correspondence with Windfall Funding, LLC with a proposed Managed Services Agreement a matter of record;

**Approved Internal Budget Revision #4 and #5 for fiscal year 2024/25;

**Received letters from Nick Frankovitch and Brian Brown expressing interest in the Oakland Public Service Board;
