WREATHES ACROSS AMERICA IN NEW CUMBERLAND

Wreaths Across America Day is scheduled for December 14, 2024.  On that day, thousands of volunteers across America will gather at noon at cemeteries to honor our veterans by placing a fresh balsam wreath on each veteran’s grave.  New Cumberland has been a member of the WAA organization for five years.  What started with five wreaths that first year has grown every year thanks to all those who sign up to sponsor a wreath.  This year we will be placing 618 wreaths in New Cumberland Cemetery, enough to cover every veteran’s grave.  We would like to thank all of our sponsors who helped to make this year our best year ever.  The ceremony will begin at 12 noon with a brief introduction in the cemetery chapel and the playing of “Taps.”  Then volunteers will walk the entire cemetery to make sure every veteran is honored.  With so many wreaths this year, more volunteers are needed.  If you have any questions about the event, contact local coordinator George Hines at 304-670-7092.
