Nancy Kay Nixon, 68, of Newell, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Monday November 18, 2024, after a five year brave fought battle with cancer. She was born on July 29, 1956 in Steubenville, the daughter of the late Earl and Marjorie (Wycoff) Tice.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Tice and Leonard Paul Tice and “baby girl” Tice.
Nancy was a 1974 graduate of Oak Glen High School. In 1990, she moved from New Cumberland to Newell when she became a partner and owner (with her husband) in the opening of the Nixon Funeral Home. She instantly became a very active member of the community. She was a charter member of the Newell Community Christmas group, where she assisted other members in making and hanging the first ever Christmas flags on the utility poles in Newell. She was a charter member of the Newell Area Civic Council, where she assisted the group in organizing the first time ever of setting up a 10,000.00 egg Easter egg hunt on the football field in Newell. She was an avid member of the PTA at Jefferson Elementary.
She is survived by her loving family, her husband of 34 years, Mitchell Nixon; a daughter and son-in-law, Amber and Bill Ware of Newell; two grandchildren that was the light of her life, Olivia and Logan Ware; a sister, Sharon (Doug) Hill of Chester, a brother Ron (Mary Ann) Tice of New Cumberland, and a sister by love, Mary Tice of New Cumberland. She is also survived by her niece and nephew, Angel Tomsic and Chris (Kayla) Tice and her great nieces and nephews; Jordan, Anna, and Alexa Tomsic and Jackson and Edie Tice. She is also survived by Megan, Ryland, and Gemma; Ashley and Ryley.
Family and friends will be received on Thursday November 21, 2024, from 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 7pm at the Nixon Funeral Home of Newell where a funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 am. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery of Chester.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to local charities of Newell or a church of their choosing. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Weirton Cancer Center and its 7th floor nurses as well as her in home nurses and Valley Hospice.
