HANCOCK COUNTY MAGISTRATE RESIGNS

Only months after being elected Hancock County Magistrate, Jon Phillips has resigned. Phillips had completed the mandatory training all new magistrates must compete and was scheduled to join Magistrates Omeka Petteway and Steve Svokas when he tendered his resignation recently. Phillips ran unopposed in the Primary Election to fill the slot previously held by Magistrate Ralph Fletcher.

Phillip’s replacement will be selected by Circuit Court Judge David Sims who serves as Chief Judge. According to Sim’s office, a Senior Status Magistrate (retired Magistrate) has been requested to fill the position until Phillip’s replacement is found. Any eligible individual interested in filling the vacancy should submit a resume to Sims. Further information can be obtained by calling 304-234-3611.
